Peter Okoye (Mr. P) has officially responded to British-Nigerian singer Darkoo’s allegations surrounding the temporary takedown of her music video Focus on Me. In her claims, Darkoo accused the singer of sabotaging her video after she declined his request to feature on the track and refused to exclude his brothers, Jude and Paul Okoye, from the clearance process.
Mr. P’s management, One Management, dismissed the allegations as “opportunistic and malicious,” offering a detailed explanation of what transpired. According to their statement, the controversy stemmed from improper clearance of the song, which sampled P-Square’s hit Gimme Dat.
What Really Happened, According to Mr. P’s Team
The management clarified that Darkoo’s team had sought clearance from an unauthorized entity, which led to the video being temporarily removed on January 2, 2025. The removal was reportedly to avoid legal complications, not as an act of retaliation.
They further stated that after the necessary agreements were finalized, the video was promptly reinstated. The management also refuted Darkoo’s claims that Mr. P demanded a 50% split or insisted on featuring on the track, maintaining that his involvement was strictly professional and focused on ensuring proper rights were secured.
“A Publicity Stunt?”
The statement concluded by accusing Darkoo of leveraging the controversy to draw attention to her music. They asserted that Mr. P had acted within his legal rights and resolved the issue according to standard industry practices.
Fans remain divided, with many debating the ethics of copyright and collaboration in the music industry. While Mr. P’s camp maintains he followed due process, the drama has undoubtedly stirred conversations about artist rights and professional integrity.
For now, it seems the saga has reached a resolution—but the buzz around it is far from over.
