Moana 2 continues to defy expectations at the box office, proving that sequels can still make waves in the movie industry. As of now, the Disney sequel has crossed a remarkable $450 million overseas, bringing its total worldwide earnings to a staggering $833.1 million. In North America, the film has soared to $382.7 million, securing the 10th spot on the all-time highest-grossing animated films list.

The movie’s success shows no signs of slowing down, with its impressive 85.3% surge from the previous Friday, despite competition from other major releases. On its fifth Friday in the U.S., it earned an additional $6.3 million, surpassing the earnings of its predecessor at the same point. Not only has Moana 2 dethroned Despicable Me 4 to become one of the highest-grossing films of 2024, but it’s also surpassed major blockbusters like Jurassic World: DominionSpider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

With strong holiday season performance and buzz building around its success, Moana 2 is eyeing another solid weekend, with projections estimating it will collect $16 to $19 million. This achievement solidifies its place as one of Disney’s most lucrative animated films in history. Moana 2 may have hit the cinemas in late November, but it’s clear that this sequel’s magic is only just beginning.
