More than four decades after its release, Michael Jackson’s “Billie Jean” has stormed back to the top of the Global Spotify chart, pulling in 4.67 million streams in a single day. The track, originally released in 1983, has been enjoying a massive resurgence fueled by the blockbuster biopic “Michael”.

The renewed momentum comes as the biopic, starring Jaafar Jackson, becomes the highest-grossing music biopic of all time, approaching $1 billion at the global box office. Since its release in April, Jackson’s entire catalog has seen a dramatic spike in digital consumption, with “Billie Jean” leading the charge.

The song’s daily streaming numbers have been staggering, with reports of over 5 million streams on some days since its chart ascent began in early May. After spending over two weeks at No. 1, it continues to demonstrate the enduring power of the King of Pop’s legacy.

The success of “Billie Jean” on modern streaming charts adds another chapter to its storied history. When it debuted in 1983 as the second single from the Thriller album, it quickly climbed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, staying on the chart for 32 weeks.

It also famously broke racial barriers on MTV, becoming one of the first videos by a Black artist to enter heavy rotation. The track went on to win two Grammy Awards  and has since been certified Diamond by the RIAA.

Today, “Billie Jean” stands as Jackson’s most-streamed track on Spotify, with over 2.7 billion streams to date. Its unforgettable bassline and storytelling continue to resonate across generations, proving that some masterpieces remain timeless. The song’s historic return to No. 1 confirms that the King of Pop’s influence extends far beyond his era, captivating a new generation of listeners.
