Metro Boomin has revealed that his fallout with Drake stemmed from a deeply personal issue that left him hurt and disappointed, shedding light on the origins of their much-discussed tension.

Speaking in a recent GQ interview alongside Future, the producer clarified that the conflict wasn’t over anything trivial, such as a romantic entanglement.

Me and [Drake], we had a personal issue, and for the record, not over no girl or nothing silly like that

 Metro said,

describing it as something relatable:

Have you ever been real cool with somebody, and y’all fell out over something? It happens every day. This just happens to have an audience.

The beef reportedly ignited during Drake and J. Cole’s 2023 track “First Person Shooter”, which indirectly led to Kendrick Lamar’s response on Metro’s Trust You project. The fallout escalated with disses traded on tracks like “Push Ups” and “Family Matters” from Drake’s side and “Like That” from Metro’s.

Despite the public drama, Metro dismissed speculation that he and Future created two albums explicitly targeting Drake. “People really think we sat for two years, making two albums to be like, ‘Yo, f–k this dude.’ What kind of s–t is that? That’s some serious hate. Neither one of us rock like that,” he clarified.

Metro also expressed regret over his online outburst during the feud.

I should have been stronger than that. That was out of character for me

he admitted. “But at a certain point, it’s like, I don’t rap, so you’re going to just s–t on me on all these songs? I’m finna tweet at you.”

Meanwhile, Future played it cool, downplaying the tension.

There was a beef? I didn’t even know there was a beef

he joked, while also expressing confusion about being left out of Drake’s “Big Three” list. “I’m supposed to be the one who gets mad; I’m still confused about that,” Future quipped.

The feud, which had fans buzzing, took a reflective turn with a recent call for unity from Young Thug. From jail, Thug tweeted: “@Drake @1future @MetroBoomin we all bruddas. Music ain’t the same without us collabin.”

As tensions cool, fans can only hope for reconciliation—and perhaps a reunion on future tracks.
