Lionel Messi has once again addressed his long-standing rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo — and his words reflect nothing but admiration.
In a recent interview, the Argentine icon spoke candidly about their years of intense competition and how, despite media-fueled narratives, the battle between them was always professional and respectful.
“I have a lot of respect and admiration for Cristiano Ronaldo, and for the career he’s had and continues to have. He is still competing at the highest level,” Messi said.
The two football legends have defined a generation, pushing each other to greatness through their performances at Barcelona and Real Madrid. But Messi insists their rivalry was never personal.
“The competition with him was on the pitch… Each of us wanted to do the best for our team. Everything stayed on the pitch,” he explained.
While fans often debate who’s the GOAT, Messi made it clear that off the pitch, there’s no bad blood — just mutual acknowledgment of each other’s greatness.
“Off the pitch, we are two normal guys. We’re not friends because we don’t spend time together, but we’ve always treated each other with a lot of respect.”
It’s a classy reminder that legends can coexist — and even lift each other — without bitterness.
