Popular gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has publicly denied filing any legal action against her former manager, Ezekiel Onyedikachi, CEO of Eezee Conceptz, over alleged revenue diversion or unfair contracts. In a statement issued through her legal team, Mercy clarified that she never complained about the 50/50 revenue split from her digital streaming platform (DSP) earnings and has not initiated a lawsuit regarding her music repertoire.
The singer’s statement sheds light on the real cause of tension between her and Ezekiel. According to Mercy, trouble arose when Ezekiel pressured her to extend her initial five-year contract to twelve years. When she refused, Ezekiel allegedly became confrontational, citing the contract and using derogatory language toward her.
Additionally, Mercy Chinwo’s team accused Ezekiel of falsifying a new contract in 2019 by altering its date to make it appear as if it had been signed in 2017.
This comes just days after an arrest warrant issued against Ezekiel Onyedikachi by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was revoked. The EFCC had previously sought the warrant over allegations of diversion but later requested its withdrawal. According to Barrister Bilikisu Buhari, the warrant became unnecessary after Ezekiel’s legal representative was served with the charges in open court.
As the controversy unfolds, Mercy Chinwo continues to focus on her career and has called for an amicable resolution. Meanwhile, the case has sparked discussions about contract fairness and transparency within the Nigerian gospel music industry.
