Marvel’s latest animated Disney+ series, Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, is swinging into action with big plans for the future. Even before the highly anticipated Season 1 premiere on January 29, the series has already been renewed for a third season.
In a recent interview with The Movie Podcast, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ Head of Streaming, Television, and Animation, shared his excitement for the project. “I’ve now read all the scripts for Season 2, and we’re halfway through the animatics,” he revealed. “Jeff [Trammell, head writer] is crafting something incredible. By the end of Season 1, you’re deeply connected to these characters, and the payoff grows stronger in subsequent seasons. We’re greenlit through Season 3, and I can’t wait to hear the pitch for what comes next.”
A New Take on Spider-Man’s Origin
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man takes place in an alternate timeline, offering a fresh twist on Peter Parker’s story. Hudson Thames voices the young hero, who, in this version, is mentored by Norman Osborn (voiced by Colman Domingo) instead of Tony Stark. The show will also feature iconic Marvel characters, including Hugh Dancy as Otto Octavius and the return of Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio as Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively.
Building Toward a Bigger Payoff
According to Winderbaum, the series aims to build emotional connections with its characters, with a long-term vision that pays off as the seasons progress. This early renewal for Season 3 demonstrates Marvel’s confidence in the series’ potential to captivate audiences.
