Marvel Studios is reportedly shifting its focus to eight major upcoming projects while putting sequels like Doctor Strange 3 and The Fantastic Four 2 on the back burner. According to recent reports, the studio is prioritizing key titles including Black Panther 3Shang-Chi 2Spider-Man 5, an X-Men reboot, a Thunderbolts sequel, BladeMidnight Sons, and the next Avengers installment as it maps out the MCU’s future beyond the Multiverse Saga.

The reported slate reflects Marvel’s strategy to streamline its output and focus on franchises with proven box office potential. Among the prioritized projects, the X-Men reboot is generating significant buzz, with Jake Schreier attached to direct and filming expected to begin after the Multiverse Saga concludes. Black Panther 3 is rumored to potentially open Phase 7, with Ryan Coogler reportedly returning to direct and Denzel Washington cast in an undisclosed role. Shang-Chi 2 remains highly anticipated following the success of the first film, and a Thunderbolts sequel suggests the studio has plans to continue that story arc.

The decision to pause these sequels comes as Marvel prepares to close out the Multiverse Saga with Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. With the narrative focus shifting to new heroes and storylines, the studio has reportedly decided that not every character can return to the big screen in their own solo films . However, this doesn’t mean the characters are being abandoned. Doctor Strange is expected to play a role in the Avengers films and could potentially team up with Blade in a future project or appear in a rumored Strange Academy TV series. The Fantastic Four are also expected to interact with other heroes in crossover films.

Avengers: Doomsday is now scheduled for December 18, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027. Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on July 31, 2026, as the next theatrical release before Doomsday. The studio has removed three untitled Marvel release dates from the calendar, signaling a more focused approach to its theatrical slate.

The shift represents a strategic pivot for Marvel Studios as it balances closing the Multiverse Saga while building toward the next era. While fans may be disappointed that Doctor Strange 3 and Fantastic Four 2 are on hold, the characters will continue to appear in the broader MCU landscape. For now, the focus is on delivering a strong conclusion to the current saga and establishing the next generation of heroes.
