Marlon Wayans is having a moment. The Scary Movie star is celebrating a massive box office hit with Scary Movie 6, and now his legal troubles are easing up as well. His ex, Brittany Moreland, has officially dropped the custody battle she filed against him over their young daughter, Axl July Ivory.
According to new legal documents, Moreland filed papers to dismiss the child custody case she originally brought against Wayans in 2024. The case had seen no updates for over a year, suggesting the former couple had quietly worked out their differences behind the scenes.
Moreland initially filed her petition in Los Angeles Superior Court in 2024, asking for primary custody of their daughter, with Wayans receiving visitation rights. The comedian quickly opposed the request and filed for joint physical and legal custody instead. At the time, Wayans publicly addressed the situation, expressing frustration at being labeled a “visitor” to his own child while paying substantial monthly support.
The Wayans family business is already calling Axl’s name. The three-year-old recently appeared in a movie titled Hudson Avenue, playing the role of Princess Ax. According to court documents, she earned a daily rate of $1,246 for the performance, with her mother signing off on the deal. It appears the former couple has been able to collaborate when it comes to their daughter’s budding career.
Meanwhile, Wayans is riding high on the success of Scary Movie 6, which reunited him with brother Shawn Wayans and the original creative team for the first time since 2001. The film opened to $55 million domestically and over $105 million worldwide, setting a new franchise record. With the custody battle now in the rearview mirror, Wayans can focus on what he does best, making audiences laugh and being a present father to his daughter.
