Marcellus Wiley has officially responded to his estranged wife Annemarie’s domestic violence restraining order request, admitting their marriage had struggles but firmly denying all abuse allegations. The former NFL star filed his response late Friday, telling the court the accusations are “heartbreaking, embarrassing, and patently untrue.” He acknowledged the couple experienced “disagreements, frustrations, and periods of marital strain” but insisted he has “never physically abused, sexually assaulted, or intentionally harmed my wife at any point during our relationship.”
Wiley specifically addressed the July 4 weekend trip to Orlando that led to his arrest on a domestic battery charge. He says he never hit, pushed, poked, grabbed, or placed his hands on her “in anger” during the incident. He also pushed back against Annemarie’s claims that she was raped, saying it “hurts him to learn Annemarie classifies some of their marital intimacy as rape” and that he has “never forced, coerced, or sexually assaulted” her.
Wiley noted that police were never called to the couple’s home during their marriage for alleged abuse, and the first time he learned about Annemarie’s allegations was after she filed for divorce earlier this month. He also emphasized the painful loss of contact with his children, after a judge granted Annemarie’s request for a temporary restraining order. He asked the court to thoroughly evaluate the evidence before making a decision, noting he has a witness who will refute all allegations from the July 4 weekend. A hearing on the restraining order is set for July 24.
