Fast-rising Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Alexander Adelabu, popularly known as Magixx, has opened up about the surprising way he became part of the legendary Mavin Records family.
In a candid chat with media personality Adesope, Magixx shared that joining Don Jazzy’s powerhouse label wasn’t part of his original plan. According to the Love Don’t Cost A Dime crooner, he was simply searching for a manager to help him navigate the tough early stages of his music career.
“I reached out to someone that I needed a person who would manage me and help me because things were really tight at that time. He reached out to a couple of people, and that was how Don Jazzy happened,” Magixx revealed.
Magixx admitted that he wasn’t actively seeking a record deal at the time. His main goal was to secure bookings and put his music in front of the right audience. However, fate had other plans when Don Jazzy himself noticed his talent and reached out.
The Unexpected Call That Changed Everything
Magixx disclosed that Don Jazzy first contacted him between September and October 2020 and soon offered him a life-changing contract.
“I wasn’t even thinking about a record label. I was just thinking of someone that could put me on shows for the world to see my talent,” he added.
He also spilled some behind-the-scenes details, revealing that the unveiling of Ayra Starr, who joined Mavin around the same time, was originally slated for September 2020 but was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This pushed Ayra’s official introduction to January 2021, shortly before Magixx and other signees were unveiled.
Today, Magixx is one of the promising stars under the Mavin Records umbrella, alongside heavyweights like Rema, Ayra Starr, Crayon, and Johnny Drille, continuing to make waves on the Afrobeats scene.
