The son of infamous “Long Island Lolita” Amy Fisher has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty after his pet cat died from what investigators describe as “involuntary heat exposure”, consistent with being placed in a microwave. Brett Anthony Bellera, 25, and his girlfriend Jennifer Armenti, 36, were charged following a forensic necropsy that determined the cat, named Reaper, suffered “excessive and repeated” pain before its death.
The investigation began when a friend alerted authorities on December 15, 2024, about the cat’s death in their Fort Lauderdale apartment. Armenti initially claimed she found Reaper dead on the bathroom floor and suspected poisoning from cleaning products. However, animal control officers discovered the cat’s body on the back patio in a plastic laundry basket surrounded by blood, raising immediate red flags.
The ASPCA forensic necropsy concluded Reaper died from “involuntary heat exposure” through either microwave radiation, submersion in hot water, or exposure to hot water vapor. Investigators noted the cat did not die immediately, confirming significant suffering. Bellera was charged while already in custody on unrelated cases, with a criminal history dating back to 2019 involving drug and robbery charges. Armenti was arrested separately in Miramar, Florida.
This disturbing case brings Amy Fisher’s family back into the spotlight. Fisher, now 51, became notorious in 1992 when at age 17 she shot the wife of her older lover Joey Buttafuoco. She served seven years in prison before her release in 1999. Fisher previously told the New York Post in 2017 that her children were “ostracized” in Florida due to her notoriety, with Bellera’s school psychologist even suggesting he drop out.
