Rapper Lil Durk is facing the biggest challenge of his career as he awaits trial on serious murder-for-hire charges. Once celebrated as one of the decade’s biggest rap stars, Durk surprised fans by releasing his new album, Deep Thoughts, despite the looming legal battle.
In a heartfelt Instagram post shortly after the album’s release, Lil Durk opened up about his current struggles. He revealed that he initially considered postponing the project due to his incarceration but ultimately decided otherwise. “I wasn’t gon put this out but then I remembered the streets need this,”he wrote. “Not being outside with y’all when I drop is hard. But I know I will feel y’all love and energy through these walls.”
Durk thanked fans for their unwavering loyalty, promising to come back stronger. “Thank y’all for rocking with me through everything,” he continued. “I tell these stories so our voice is never lost. I’m coming home soon stronger than ever.”
The rapper isn’t the only one speaking out. His longtime girlfriend, India Royale, posted the album on her Instagram, urging fans to stream it while also pushing the #FREEMYMAN campaign. Fellow rapper 21 Savage also showed support, sharing the album’s artwork on his page with the simple caption: “Free you.” Despite not featuring on the album, 21 Savage’s gesture echoes his past support for artists in legal trouble, like his involvement in Young Thug’s Business Is Business rollout during Thug’s ongoing trial.
Lil Durk’s trial, initially scheduled for January 7th, has now been postponed to October 14th, leaving fans anxious about the rapper’s fate. In the meantime, Deep Thoughts is receiving strong reactions from fans and critics alike.
