LeBron James has made his decision. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer is signing with the Philadelphia 76ers on a two-year, $8 million deal that includes a player option. The announcement came Friday via social media, ending weeks of speculation that had gripped the league and even delayed the NBA’s schedule release.
“I believe I can help make the Philadelphia 76ers a championship team, and I am so excited to energize a new fan base and start this incredible journey one last time,” James wrote on X. The 41-year-old, entering his record 24th NBA season, chose Philadelphia over reported suitors that included the Miami Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Golden State Warriors.
James joins a stacked 76ers roster that already features Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and newly acquired Jaylen Brown. His willingness to accept far below market value, just $4 million per season, allowed Philadelphia to add him without dismantling its core. The deal keeps the Sixers below the first-apron hard cap while giving James a chance to chase his fifth NBA championship.
“I still want to sacrifice. I still want to work. I still want to grind. I still want to compete, to win and to have a chance at the feeling of winning another championship,” James posted . He becomes the fourth player in NBA history to suit up for four different teams, following a career that includes titles with Cleveland, Miami, and the Lakers.
