Nollywood star Lateef Adedimeji has shared an emotional story about the discouragement he faced in his early days as an actor. Speaking during a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the talented actor revealed how a mentor in the Yoruba movie industry once told him he would not succeed in Nollywood.
Adedimeji recounted the encounter, saying, “Somebody once told me in the Yoruba industry, ‘I give you one year; I want to see what you will become.’ And I told the person, ‘I give you one year, and I will show you what I will become.’”
The actor’s determination paid off as he has since risen to prominence, becoming one of Nollywood’s most sought-after stars. However, his journey to stardom was far from smooth.
Adedimeji also recalled the challenges of navigating the industry as a newcomer. In a previous interview, he revealed that he was advised to join specific caucuses to succeed in the Yoruba film industry. Following the advice, he joined groups led by notable figures like Afeez Eniola, Bayo Tijani, and Muyiwa Ademola.
“I started with carrying cameras,” he said. “I would carry lenses to follow the cameraman. I would be sent on errands to select camera lenses. After that set, I said, ‘I don’t think I want to do this anymore. This is not what I want to do,’ and I left.”
Despite the initial setbacks, Lateef Adedimeji’s unwavering determination and hard work eventually earned him a well-deserved place in Nollywood. His story serves as a powerful reminder that resilience and self-belief can overcome even the harshest criticisms.
