Pop icon Lady Gaga has heaped praise on rising rap sensation Doechii, calling her “immediately legendary” for her raw talent and emotional depth. In a new interview with British Vogue, Gaga described being struck by Doechii’s penmanship and personal storytelling, saying, “You don’t often see someone come out of the gate with a pen that feels immediately legendary… the power in her words, her vulnerability, the way she rhymes – it struck me to the core.”

Doechii, real name Jaylah Hickmon, recently performed at Glastonbury and has become known for hits like Denial Is A River and Yucky Blucky Fruitcake. Her breakthrough moment came in 2024 with the release of her debut album Alligator Bites Never Heal, which featured standout tracks like Catfish and Nissan Altima. The project earned her a Grammy win for Best Rap Album, and multiple nominations at the 67th Grammy Awards.
Gaga’s admiration is especially meaningful for Doechii, who once called Gaga her “lifeline” while presenting her with the Innovator Award at the 2025 iHeartRadio Music Awards. “Lady Gaga wasn’t just a pop star—she was a lifeline. Gaga taught us that it was OK to be our real selves,” Doechii said.

Her viral hit Anxiety, which samples Gotye and Kimbra’s 2011 classic Somebody That I Used To Know, skyrocketed after a live video resurfaced online—eventually climbing to number 3 on the UK singles chart. With Gaga’s co-sign and a rapidly growing fanbase, Doechii’s star is clearly on the rise.
