Filmmaker and cult favorite Kevin Smith may be one of the biggest comic book geeks in Hollywood, but don’t expect to see him directing a Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster anytime soon. In fact, Smith made it hilariously clear in a recent interview with Collider that the idea of him directing a Marvel movie is a total nonstarter.
“Everyone’s like, ‘Do you want to make a Marvel movie?’ F**king never. What in my body of work has ever made anyone think, ‘He’d be good for that sort of visual spectacle?’”
Smith, known for indie cult hits like Clerks, Mallrats, and Dogma, has always proudly stayed in his own quirky lane. His brand of “Kevin Smith movies” — often self-deprecating, dialogue-heavy, and defiantly low-budget — are, in his words, movies “nobody wants to make except me.” And that’s exactly how he likes it.
Despite his deep love for all things comics, Smith says he’s never been interested in the high-stakes world of superhero filmmaking, where hundreds of millions of dollars, studio interference, and CGI spectacles rule.
But don’t count him out of the MCU entirely. Smith says he’d jump at the chance to play a character — just not direct one.
“If [Marvel] was like, ‘We want you to play … anybody. One scene — a f**king bad guy, a good guy.’ Oh my god […] That’s what I’d be more interested in. Because that would be fun, and none of the responsibility would be mine.”
Kevin Smith Still Cooking Up Fan-Favorite Sequels
Even though Smith has no plans to suit up behind the Marvel camera, he’s not done with the characters and stories his fans adore.
• Twilight of the Mallrats – A long-teased sequel to his 1995 cult comedy Mallrats, the film faced uncertainty after the passing of original star Shannen Doherty. Still, Smith remains committed to honoring her legacy by moving forward with the project.
• Dogma 2 – After regaining control of his 1999 religious satire Dogma, Smith has confirmed plans for a theatrical re-release, with a possible sequel still in the cards. But as he told ScreenRant, the pressure to live up to fan expectations is massive:
“Too many people f**king love this movie, so I can’t make that same movie again, because I don’t have the same faith.”
• The 4:30 Movie – Smith’s most recent film continued his trend of personal, indie storytelling that resonates with his loyal audience — no capes, no multiverses, just heartfelt characters and offbeat humor.
For now, Smith’s place remains outside the Marvel machine — and proudly so. He’ll leave the VFX-heavy superhero epics to others, while continuing to build his own cinematic universe, one quiet, weird, heartfelt film at a time.

Diddy’s Former Assistant Testifies on “King Nights” During Explosive Trial
Jonathan Perez, a former personal assistant to Sean “Diddy” Combs, gave dramatic testimony on June 13, 2025, shedding more light on the inner workings of Combs’ controversial “King Nights.” Perez is the fourth witness to testify under immunity in the high-profile trial, following similar testimonies from other insiders including former staff and hotel security.
Perez, who worked for Diddy from December 2021 to September 2024, said his role included organizing intimate hotel meetups — known internally as “King Nights” — between the music mogul and his companion, referred to in court as “Jane.” Jane previously testified in the trial, offering disturbing details of her experiences with Diddy between 2021 and 2024.
Inside “King Nights”: Routine and Revelations
Perez testified that his job included preparing hotel rooms in advance, sometimes with only a couple of hours’ notice. He described these setups as extensive: arranging food, alcohol, music, red lights, condoms, lubricant, and occasionally honey, which he noted was believed to enhance libido. He also said he sometimes visited sex shops to purchase adult costumes and high heels for Jane, using a company card or cash from Diddy’s security team.
“It was a lot of packing materials, making sure that he was going to have everything he would need for 12 to 24 hours without having to bother anybody,” Perez told the court.
His description of the aftermath included “a bit of a mess” — sheets, towels, oils — which he often cleaned up himself, ensuring no personal items were left behind.
A Coordinated Team
According to Perez, Diddy typically had three to four assistants working rotating shifts. He worked day shifts from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., while others handled nights and evenings, often managing the full “King Night” experience.
Text messages presented in court showed Perez’s coordination with Diddy, Jane, and Chief of Staff Kristina Khorram. In one August 2023 message to Diddy and Jane, Perez wrote:
“Just left two candles and room phone in front of room door. I’m only 9 minutes away if y’all need anything.”
Another message showed Perez informing Khorram that he was running to the store to pick up outfits for Jane, further highlighting how involved Combs’ entire inner circle was in these events.
In one exchange from May 2023, Khorram asked how cleanup was going. An assistant replied:
“Slipped & fell twice.”
Jane and Cassie’s Accounts Align
Much of Perez’s testimony corroborates previous testimony from Jane, who described Combs orchestrating sexual encounters with male entertainers during hotel nights. Similarly, Cassie Ventura, Diddy’s ex-girlfriend from 2007 to 2018, testified earlier about “Freak Offs,” which shared disturbing similarities with the events described by Jane and Perez.
Perez stated he wasn’t always sure of Jane’s exact role, referring to her as a “female friend, companion, I’m not sure exactly.” Still, he confirmed that she was a regular presence during these hotel stays.
The Bigger Picture
Perez is the fourth immunity-protected witness to take the stand, following George Kaplan (another assistant), Bryana Bongolan, and Eddy Garcia, a former hotel security guard. Their collective testimonies are painting a detailed picture of Combs’ alleged private conduct, now under public and legal scrutiny.
As the trial continues, more messages and firsthand accounts are expected to surface — intensifying pressure on one of hip hop’s most influential, yet now deeply embattled, figures.
