Katy Perry is ready to set the world on fire. The pop superstar has officially announced her new single, “Watch It Burn,” set for release on June 25. The track marks her first major musical offering of 2026 and arrives with a deeply personal message about embracing darkness and anger after a difficult year.
“I have not given myself permission to be angry my whole life over things where I should be f—ing angry about,” Perry explained during an appearance on the Unfamous podcast with Justin Tranter. “Last year was pretty tough, and it would have been easy for me to fall into that weird victim triangle,” she added, revealing that the song is about making a “conscious decision” to choose light over darkness.
The “Firework” singer’s tough year coincides with significant personal changes. In 2025, Perry ended her nine-year engagement to actor Orlando Bloom, with whom she shares daughter Daisy Dove, now 5. Since then, she has been publicly linked to former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, making their red carpet debut together on June 8 at the Tribeca Festival premiere of her concert film.
Perry has been open about how her new relationship has anchored her. “I fly super high and touch the veil … cosmos … and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now,” she shared during a recent Q&A.
The song preview shows Perry in a new emotional territory. “Instead of falling into ‘Woe is me,’ I just was like, ‘Okay, let’s just feel this f—ing pain,'” she explained, describing the track as her wrestling with darkness and the process of letting it go. The song will also feature an accompanying music video directed by Christian Breslauer.
“Watch It Burn” follows her November 2025 single “Bandaids” and comes as she prepares for a series of European festival performances this summer, including stops in Spain and Portugal. For fans, the single offers a preview of what appears to be a new, more vulnerable chapter for the pop icon.
