Popular Fuji musician, King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate, has stirred controversy online following remarks about Muslim clerics ahead of his late mother’s 8-day Fidau prayer.

In a viral video, K1 was heard in a conversation where he referred to clerics using the term “G’anu si,” a phrase interpreted by many to mean that the clerics attend social events uninvited, often for monetary gain. He allegedly stated, “Alfas will not go to my father’s house for the party. It’s my house they will ‘G’anu si.’”

The comment sparked mixed reactions, especially after a well-known cleric, Sheikh Faruq Onikijipa, addressed the issue during the Fidau prayer held on Friday, January 24. The Sheikh publicly called on K1 to apologise for the perceived insult to the Muslim clerics.

However, K1 refused to tender an apology, asserting that he had done nothing wrong. “To admit guilt means saying, ‘Okay, don’t be angry.’ But there’s no reason for that because I have done nothing wrong. If you admit guilt, you are saying the accusations are true, which they are not,” he stated.

The musician’s refusal to apologise has sparked debates within the Muslim community. While some supported K1, arguing that many clerics often attend events uninvited, others criticised him for allegedly disrespecting the alfas. Some also pointed out that the clerics would not have attended the ceremony if they had not been invited by the musician himself.

The incident continues to generate discussion online, with opinions divided on whether K1 was justified in his stance or should have apologised to the clerics.
