Joe Manganiello is opening up about his near-fatal health battle, and he says Sofía Vergara was the opposite of supportive during that time. In his memoir, Bloodlines, Manganiello claims his ex-wife refused to hug him and even made fun of his puppy while he was fighting a mysterious autoimmune condition. He writes that their marriage had “become devoid of any emotionality whatsoever” during his health crisis.
The Joe Manganiello Sofía Vergara revelations include the claim that the dog Vergara allegedly ridiculed him over actually saved his life when he was considering suicide. “I had to give my gun away because I kept thinking about it, and then the dog came,” he writes. “I went from being the patient to the caretaker.”
Manganiello says his health began declining not long after their 2015 wedding. He experienced abdominal pain, ulcers, fevers, rashes, headaches, and fatigue. He had emergency surgery in 2016 and, over seven years, lost 60 pounds, underwent numerous colonoscopies, and had part of his intestines removed. He was treated for Crohn’s and colitis, and used hydrocodone, fentanyl patches, and marijuana for pain. He has since had surgery to reconnect his digestive tract and says he is now symptom-free and off his medications. Vergara previously said the couple split because he wanted kids and she didn’t want to be an “old mom.” Manganiello claims he had abandoned the idea of having children when he was sick. Representatives for Vergara have not commented on the memoir.
