Jocelyn Wildenstein, the Swiss-American socialite famously nicknamed “The Catwoman” for her dramatic cosmetic transformations, has passed away at the age of 84. Wildenstein died on December 31 in Paris due to a pulmonary embolism, her longtime partner, Lloyd Klein, confirmed.

Born on August 5, 1940, in Lausanne, Switzerland, Jocelyn Wildenstein became a prominent figure in New York high society. Her distinctive facial surgeries, which she often linked to her cultural heritage, garnered widespread media attention and cemented her as a pop culture figure. Despite the controversies surrounding her appearance, Wildenstein’s personal life was equally headline-grabbing.

Her divorce from billionaire art dealer Alec Wildenstein in 1999 remains one of the most expensive in history, with Jocelyn reportedly receiving a $2.5 billion settlement. However, financial troubles followed in later years, culminating in a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in 2018.

Through it all, Wildenstein remained a figure of fascination and resilience, continuing to grace headlines thanks to her relationship with fashion designer Lloyd Klein. The couple met in 2003 and became engaged in 2017 when Klein proposed with an extravagant 32-carat diamond ring.

Wildenstein is survived by her two children, Diane and Alec Jr. Her passing marks the end of a life that, while divisive, left an indelible impact on the social and fashion landscapes.
