Superman fans won’t have to wait long for the Man of Steel’s return after his highly anticipated solo film hits theaters in July 2025.

In a recent interview with Phase HeroDC Studios co-head James Gunn revealed that Superman is expected to reappear in less than two years following the release of “Superman”, and maybe even sooner than that.

“A couple of years. Well, no, you might see him… You’ll see him before then,” Gunn teased. “Yeah, you’ll see the character before then.”

His comments suggest that Superman could show up in another project — possibly animated or a cameo — before any direct sequel. And while he didn’t confirm if David Corenswet, who plays Superman in the 2025 reboot, will appear, he hinted the character will definitely be back in some form.

Where Could Superman Appear Next?

Though DC hasn’t officially announced a sequel to Superman (2025) — which stars Rachel Brosnahanas Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor — several upcoming DCU projects could feature the character:

Peacemaker Season 2 (August 2025): Gunn’s own show may include a Superman cameo

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow (2026): A likely candidate, given her close ties to Superman — and Corenswet is already rumored to appear

DC Animated Series: Including My Adventures with Green Lantern and DC Super Powers, both in development

Gunn also hinted that Superman might appear in animated form, expanding the hero’s presence beyond live-action.

Gunn Digs into Superman’s Comic Book Lore

In a separate conversation with ComicBook, Gunn delighted fans of comic canon by discussing one obscure but intriguing detail — Superman’s hypno glasses.

“It’s kind of been forgotten, but that’s from the comics,” Gunn said, crediting writer Tom King for reminding him about their original purpose in Superman #330 (1978) — helping Clark Kent remain unrecognizable as Superman.

He also praised Corenswet’s transformation into the character, saying:

“He looks the most different as Clark Kent to Superman, even more so than Chris Reeve.”

What’s Next for the DCU?

James Gunn continues to reshape the DC Universe through his Gods and Monsters chapter, with Superman (2025) positioned as a tone-setting reboot. Though the next appearance of Superman remains a mystery, fans can rest easy knowing that the hero is far from finished in the DCU.

Stay tuned — Superman is flying back into view sooner than you think.
