Afrobeats superstar Davido, born David Adeleke, has opened up about the incredible impact his music has had—not just on his career, but on his life and family. Speaking at the ‘Elevate Africa’ program, the Nigerian hitmaker proudly shared how his music has catapulted him into rooms of power and influence, even earning him direct access to 14 presidents across the globe.
“Yes o, forget the money,” Davido said with a chuckle. “I have 14 presidents’ phone numbers. I can call them directly.” Let that sink in—14 presidents, all just a phone call away. If that’s not the definition of global clout, what is?
While he hails from a wealthy family, Davido emphasized that his musical journey has opened doors far beyond his father’s business empire. “Aside from my dad’s businesses and wealth, I know how many doors my music has opened for my family,” he noted. His artistry has not only expanded his influence but has also turned him into a cultural ambassador for Nigeria and Africa at large.
Davido shared how his visits to new countries are often marked by requests for meetings from top-ranking officials, including heads of state. “In every country we go to, the president wants to meet us. That’s also promoting our culture. It’s an amazing feeling,” he said.
The global rise of Afrobeats, led by trailblazers like Davido, has not only put African music on the world stage but has also amplified cultural pride and representation. Through his music, Davido has positioned himself as a symbol of African excellence, bridging gaps between continents and showcasing the richness of African culture.
With countless chart-topping hits and high-profile collaborations under his belt, Davido’s journey is a testament to the power of music as a soft tool for diplomacy and cultural exchange. His story continues to inspire millions, reminding the world that African music is more than just a genre—it’s a global movement.
As Davido himself puts it, “African music has come a long way. From being celebrated in our own backyard to uniting people worldwide, it’s an amazing feeling.” And with Davido leading the charge, there’s no telling just how far Afrobeats will go.
