Your favorite Canadian drama is about to ride off into the streaming sunset—at least on Netflix U.S.
After more than a decade as a steady fan favorite, ‘Heartland’ is officially leaving Netflix U.S. this summer. If you’re wondering why and when the beloved Canadian series is being removed, here’s what you need to know—and where you can still catch every heartfelt episode.
When Is ‘Heartland’ Leaving Netflix U.S.?
Mark your calendar:
All 16 seasons (that’s 249 episodes) of Heartland will be removed from Netflix U.S. on August 1, 2025. According to the notice on its Netflix page, July 31, 2025, will be your “Last Day to Watch.”
Why Is It Leaving?
The reason is simple: licensing rights.
Netflix’s agreement to host Heartland is expiring, and so far, there’s no word on a renewal.
A Netflix support representative confirmed, “Some titles may leave Netflix due to licensing agreements.” Renewal decisions are based on several factors, such as:
• Whether the rights are still available
• Popularity of the title in the region
• Cost of licensing
Despite its strong viewership, it seems Heartland didn’t make the cut for continued licensing in the U.S.
No Seasons 17 or 18 on Netflix U.S.
The departure also means that Seasons 17 and 18, which fans had hoped would arrive on Netflix U.S., won’t be added. This is especially disappointing given that Heartland was recently renewed for a 19th season by CBC, with 10 new episodes set to air.
Where to Watch ‘Heartland’ After Netflix
Good news: you won’t have to say goodbye to Heartland entirely.
Even after its Netflix exit, the show will still be available across multiple platforms in the U.S., including:
• UP Faith & Family (where Season 18 premiered)
• Hallmark+
• Peacock
• Prime Video
• The CW
• The Roku Channel
Some of these platforms may require a subscription, but several also offer free streaming with ads.
What About International Viewers?
Outside the U.S., Netflix still hosts newer seasons, although older episodes were removed from international catalogs in 2022. Availability will vary depending on your country.
A Fan Favorite to the End
Despite its upcoming removal, Heartland remains one of Netflix’s most-watched dramas. Between 2023 and 2024, it racked up over 500 million viewing hours globally, which equals around 55 million views—a testament to the show’s enduring appeal.
