The hit animated musical series Hazbin Hotel will officially end with its upcoming fifth season. Creator Vivienne Medrano made the announcement during a live stream, confirming that the show’s ambitious story has a planned endpoint. The series follows Charlie, the princess of Hell, as she fights to fix an eternal problem: overcrowding in her father’s domain.
The show exploded onto Amazon Prime Video in August 2024 after years of building a cult following through an independent pilot on YouTube. That first season broke records for the platform, proving that adult animation with heart, profanity, and show tunes could compete with anything on cable.
Charlie Morningstar is the princess of Hell, and she hates what her kingdom has become. Every year, angels descend from Heaven to slaughter demons during an event called the Extermination. Overpopulation fuels the violence. Charlie’s solution sounds insane to everyone around her: open a hotel that rehabilitates sinners, helping them earn their way into Heaven.
The hotel runs on pure optimism and zero evidence that redemption is even possible. Her father Lucifer thinks she is naive. The radio demon Alastor offers to help simply because he wants to watch her fail for his own entertainment. Even her girlfriend Vaggie, a former angel, has doubts. But Charlie keeps singing, keeps believing, and keeps the doors open.
Medrano told fans she always knew how many seasons the story required. Season 2 finished production, and Season 3 is currently in the voice recording phase. Seasons 4 and 5 will complete the arc that began with that scrappy YouTube pilot.
The creator explained that stretching the story beyond five seasons would dilute everything the show has built. She compared the decision to ending a novel exactly where the final chapter belongs, rather than adding sequel hooks just to keep a good thing going.
The final season will answer every major question the show has raised. Will Charlie prove that redemption is possible? Which demons will earn their second chance? And what happens when Heaven realizes Hell is changing the rules of the eternal game?
The musical numbers will reach their peak in Season 5. Medrano confirmed that some songs have been in her head since before the pilot aired, waiting for the exact right moment in the story.
What started as a passion project drawn by one animator has become a global phenomenon. The Hazbin Hotel pilot amassed over 100 million views before Amazon picked up the series. The show’s soundtrack, featuring hits like “Loser, Baby” and “Poison,” regularly charts on Spotify’s top global playlists.
The fandom built around Charlie’s quixotic quest has turned the princess of Hell into an icon for outsiders, dreamers, and anyone who has ever been told their goal is impossible but kept chasing it anyway. Her insistence that demons deserve compassion resonates with audiences who see their own struggles reflected in her hotel’s broken residents.
While Season 5 will close the main story, Medrano teased that other projects set in the same universe remain possible. But for Charlie Morningstar, the final credits will roll exactly where they were always meant to. The princess of Hell will either succeed or fail spectacularly. Either way, she will go down singing.
