Hayden Panettiere’s body has been released to her family, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed. The late actress’s remains were transferred to a mortuary on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 18, two days after she died in South Carolina at age 36.
An autopsy completed on Monday, Aug. 17, revealed: “no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death”. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation, including toxicology tests that could take up to three months to complete.
The coroner’s office confirmed that Panettiere was found in “cardiac arrest” when first responders arrived at the Greenville residence on Sunday, Aug. 16 . Emergency Medical Services initiated advanced cardiac life support measures, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at 2:32 PM.
Her father, Alan “Skip” Panettiere, released a statement through her representative: “It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden. She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her, and to the millions who watched her onscreen”.
