London’s O2 Arena became the center of the pop universe Friday night. Harry Styles launched his “Together, Together” residency with a seismic performance that included a surprise opening act and a dramatically reshuffled set list.

The former One Direction star will play 15 nights at the iconic venue through July, but night one proved he isn’t sticking to any script.

The crowd arrived expecting a warm-up DJ. Instead, country-pop royalty walked onstage. Shania Twain, the “Man! I Feel Like a Woman!” singer, served as the official opening act for the entire residency.

Twain delivered a six-song set that spanned her greatest hits, sending the predominantly young crowd into a frenzy. The two singers have a documented friendship, with Styles frequently covering Twain’s “You’re Still the One” during his previous tours. Twain returned the favor Friday, telling the crowd that Styles “reminds me why I fell in love with making music.”

For the Harry Styles Together Together residency, bringing Twain on board signals that Styles is thinking about legacy and mentorship, not just chart positions.

Styles performed for 100 minutes but notably dropped three songs from his previous tour rotation. “Cinema,” “Keep Driving,” and “Boyfriends” were all cut from the main set.

In their place? A cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain” that brought the house down. Styles also elevated “Little Freak” from a rotating slot to a permanent fixture and added an extended outro to “Satellite” featuring a gospel choir.

The “Together, Together” residency marks Styles’s first major solo stand since his 2023 world tour wrapped in Italy. The 15-night run is reportedly designed to feel intimate despite the arena setting, with a B-stage that extends halfway into the crowd and no video screens larger than a car.

Styles emerged in a custom Gucci sequin jumpsuit, opening not with a single but with “Daylight.” He addressed the set list changes directly: “We’re trying something new. If you wanted the old thing, there are plenty of videos on your phone. Tonight is for right now.”

The residency continues Saturday night with Twain again opening.
