The “Chandelier” singer is speaking out about her recent divorce agreement. In an emotional social media post, Sia addressed her child support settlement with estranged husband Daniel Bernad, admitting she is “trying to buy peace” after a “horrific year.” The Grammy-nominated artist will pay over $40,000 per month for their young son.
Court documents filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on April 6 reveal that Sia agreed to pay Bernad $42,500 monthly in child support for their two-year-old son, Somersault Wonder Bernad. The payments began on April 1 and will continue until the child turns 18, or 19 if he remains in high school.
The singer took to X on Tuesday, April 7, to share her perspective. “I’m a sober working mom trying to buy peace,” she wrote. “I have primary custody of our son, and since I am the only parent earning income, I still have to pay California’s incredibly high child support”.
She concluded her statement with a poignant quote from Alexander Pope: “To err is human, to forgive is divine”. The post came shortly after another blunt message directed at her ex-husband: “Good dads get jobs”.
The Sia child support settlement extends far beyond the monthly figure. The singer is also responsible for covering private school tuition, agreed-upon extracurricular activities, uninsured healthcare costs, and health insurance for their son . Additionally, she must maintain a $5 million life insurance policy naming Somersault as the beneficiary .
The former couple will share joint legal custody, with physical custody following a structured schedule. Holidays will be divided, with Bernad receiving Father’s Day and Hanukkah, while Sia gets Mother’s Day, Easter, and Christmas .
The settlement comes after a bitter legal battle. Sia filed for divorce in March 2025, citing irreconcilable differences just two years after their 2022 wedding . In October 2025, Bernad filed for sole custody, alleging the singer was “an unfit and unreliable parent struggling with substance abuse and addiction” . Sia denied the claims, stating she was six months sober and actively in recovery. A judge ultimately denied Bernad’s request.
For now, the singer is focused on moving forward. “This has been a horrific year but it taught me how to navigate incredibly difficult situations, prioritize my family and not absorb other people’s negativity,” she wrote.
