Bundesliga side TSG Hoffenheim have bolstered their attacking lineup with the signing of Nigerian forward Gift Orban from French club Olympique Lyon. The German outfit sealed the deal with a €9 million fee plus €3 million in potential add-ons.
Orban, 22, had a challenging stint at Lyon, where he managed just five goals in 21 appearances since his move from Belgian club KAA Gent a year ago. His lack of league appearances since September made it clear that his future lay elsewhere.
“We wish Gift well in his new adventure,” Lyon said in a farewell statement, signaling an amicable parting of ways.
At Hoffenheim, the versatile striker is expected to inject much-needed speed and width into their attacking options. Andreas Schicker, Hoffenheim’s director, expressed excitement about Orban’s arrival: “In Gift Orban, we have found exactly the fast striker we were looking for. We are convinced that his skills will give our team greater variety in attack.”
