Ghana has cemented its place on the global cinematic map as its debut science fiction film, The B.A.T.U. Project: ADAM THE FIRST, won three major awards at the prestigious Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival (MiSciFi). The awards ceremony, held on January 19, 2025, in Miami, Florida, marked a historic achievement for Ghana’s film industry.
A Triple Crown Victory
Written and directed by Majeed Sayibu, the groundbreaking film dominated its categories, winning:
1. Best Zero Budget Feature Film – Recognizing exceptional filmmaking on a limited budget.
2. Best Afrofuturism Film – Celebrating innovative African cultural representation in a futuristic context.
3. MiSciFi BEACON Award – The festival’s highest honor, awarded to Ghana as a country for producing this transformative work.
This remarkable feat not only highlights Ghana’s potential in the sci-fi genre but also amplifies its voice on the global cinematic stage.

The film’s team, including director Majeed Sayibu, lead actor and producer Agbeko “Bex” Mortty, and actress Etornam Adgbor, represented Ghana at the event. Reflecting on their achievement, Sayibu said:
