Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has broken new ground with her latest cinema hit, Everybody Loves Jenifa, which has grossed over ₦1 billion in just eight days. The movie’s impressive sales span both Nigeria and the international market, solidifying Akindele’s position as a box-office powerhouse.
In Nigeria alone, the film has raked in ₦783 million, while its international earnings total $194,560, making it the first Nollywood release to gross over $190,000 outside Africa in its opening week.
Taking to Instagram to celebrate the milestone, Akindele expressed her heartfelt gratitude to her fans, cast, and colleagues. She wrote:
“$194,560 and counting in just 8 days, Who else but God? 🙌 Huge thanks to my tireless cast, fabulous colleagues, and unstoppable Jenifans, YOU are the true superstars.”
The actress urged fans to keep the momentum going, encouraging them to help Everybody Loves Jenifasurpass the record set by her previous film, A Tribe Called Judah, which is Nollywood’s highest-grossing movie to date.
This achievement further cements Akindele’s reign as the queen of the Nollywood box office. Her films, including A Tribe Called Judah, Everybody Loves Jenifa, Battle on Buka Street, and Omo Ghetto: The Saga, hold the top four spots on the highest-grossing Nollywood movies chart.
