Determined to uplift aspiring women in the creative industry, Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele hosted the Creative Blueprint Masterclass in Lagos. The event, held in celebration of Women’s Month, aimed to provide actionable strategies for women looking to transform their passions in filmmaking, entrepreneurship, art, fashion, and other creative fields into impactful careers.
The Power of Purpose and Overcoming Challenges
Speaking on the theme “The Creative Blueprint”, Akindele emphasized the importance of having a purpose as the foundation for success in the creative industry.
“As a creative person aspiring to be successful, you need to know that if you have a purpose, your time will come. But at some point, you will also face pain, challenges, and struggles,” she said.
Drawing from her own experiences, the award-winning filmmaker advised aspiring female creatives to embrace criticism, learn from challenges, and remain resilient.
“I read comments on blogs, pick out the truth, and use it to my advantage. Your struggles should not define you; how you rise from them should.”
She further stressed the need to focus on creativity, development, and consistency, rather than chasing money, as financial success will naturally follow hard work and excellence.
Waje on the Business of Music
Nigerian singer Waje, in her session “The Business of Music: Turning Creativity into Profit”, stressed that talent alone is not enough for success in the entertainment industry. She advised musicians to invest in themselves, avoid selling themselves short, and always consult intellectual property lawyers before signing contracts.
Building Wealth in the Creative Industry
Entrepreneur Ifedayo Durosinmi-Etti tackled the financial struggles of creatives in her presentation, “Growing Wealth in the Creative Economy”. She noted that despite the billion-dollar contribution of the creative industry to the global economy, many creatives face inconsistent cash flow, poor monetization strategies, and lack of investment knowledge.
To secure financial stability, she urged creatives to:

✔ Develop multiple streams of income
✔ Leverage digital platforms for growth
✔ Adopt smart pricing and value perception strategies
