Nigerian actress Funke Akindele has opened up about the challenges she faces raising her children alone following her separation from her estranged husband, Abdulrasheed Bello (popularly known as JJC Skillz). The two, who got married in 2016, welcomed twin children in 2018. However, they parted ways in June 2022, with JJC Skillz announcing their separation on Instagram.
Despite the public separation, Akindele revealed in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo that she is solely responsible for raising their children. She expressed her frustration, explaining that JJC Skillz has not stepped up to support her in this important role.
In the interview, she also touched on her emotional struggles, particularly following the death of her mother in 2023 and her political loss during the elections. Akindele confessed that during this period of intense grief, she nearly reached a breaking point.
“I almost died,” she said, recalling the emotional toll. “My heart was aching… Do you know what I’m going through? I lost my mum, my marriage fell apart, I lost in politics, I have to get back to work, I have children I’m raising alone, and you are stressing me.”
She further described how the overwhelming pressure led to her breaking down emotionally, something she hadn’t allowed herself to do before. For the first time, Akindele shared that she cried, opening up about the immense weight of her personal struggles.
The interview has sparked conversations online, with many empathizing with the actress’s struggles and her strength in managing both her career and motherhood amidst the challenges.
