Nollywood’s latest hit, Family Gbese, has raked in an impressive ₦28.1 million just two weeks after its release. The film, produced by Inkblot, earned ₦15.2 million in its first week and added ₦12.7 million in its second, reflecting growing audience interest in Nollywood stories.
Family Gbese follows the journey of a young man navigating a promising career while grappling with his elder brother’s crippling gambling addiction. With the family deep in debt to dangerous street gangs, he faces tough choices between loyalty to his family and protecting his love life. Its themes of family, loyalty, and personal sacrifice have struck a chord with viewers.
Directed by British-Nigerian filmmaker Michelle Bello, the movie brings her signature storytelling touch, building on her acclaimed works such as Small Boy and Sesame Street Nigeria. Bello, a two-time African Movie Academy Award winner, assembled a stellar cast including Ireti Doyle, Muyiwa Ademola, Yemi Solade, and Fathia Williams, whose performances have been widely praised.
Released in cinemas on November 8, 2024, following the success of Inkblot’s Muri & Ko, Family Gbeseis solidifying Nollywood’s reputation for delivering engaging and commercially successful films.
