Beyoncé and Jay-Z fans went into full panic mode over the weekend after viral documents claimed the power couple had filed lawsuits against Rihanna and A$AP Rocky. The supposed cases, allegedly filed on February 22, appeared to be pending in the Virgin Islands District Court, sparking massive online speculation.
However, sharp-eyed fans quickly spotted red flags in the legal documents:
• A$AP Rocky’s real name, Rakim Mayers, was not used—a major legal no-no
• Rihanna’s name was misspelled as “Robin” instead of Robyn
• The court hearing was scheduled for a Saturday (March 8), which is highly unusual
Adding to the mystery, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation chimed in on X (formerly Twitter), posting: “Don’t be dumb.” The cryptic message, referencing Rocky’s upcoming album Don’t Be Dumb, seemed to dismiss the rumors outright.
Lawyer Meghann Cuniff later confirmed the lawsuits were fake, calling them likely a court clerk’s test documents mistakenly made public. The “cases” even had a TRAINING DOCUMENTlabel in the PACER filing system, further proving they were not real.
Although the fake lawsuit drama was debunked, it came just days after A$AP Rocky was acquitted in his felony assault trial, making this a chaotic week for the couple.
Moral of the story? Don’t believe everything you see online.
