The woman who claimed Eric Swalwell made her “uncomfortable” at a Democratic National Convention event appears to have her facts mixed up. Photographs obtained show the former congressman wasn’t even there. The Nomiki Konst Swalwell claim initially spread quickly across social media, but the visual evidence tells a different story.
Konst, a political commentator and former surrogate for Bernie Sanders, described an encounter with Swalwell at a DNC-related gathering. She claimed the interaction happened in a public setting with witnesses present, including high-profile Democrats. Her description painted an uncomfortable scene that generated immediate attention, given the swirl of other allegations against Swalwell at the time.
Here’s where the story falls apart. Dated photographs place Swalwell in Annapolis, Maryland, and South Florida during the exact period when the alleged DNC event was supposed to have happened. The images show the congressman traveling with his family, not attending any DNC function.
There’s another problem with the original claim. Konst mentioned former DNC chair Donna Brazile being present at the gathering. But Brazile stepped down as DNC chair in 2017. She couldn’t have been at a 2018 DNC event. The details simply don’t line up.
When confronted with the photographic proof, Konst changed her story. She now says the incident happened at a “democratic organizing meeting” she attended over a two-year span, not specifically at the 2018 DNC event she originally described.
“I’m not a whistleblower or a Swalwell survivor,” Konst said in her revised statement. “I was simply sharing an anecdote of an event that occurred at one of these many meetings. The event was in a public space with witnesses. After reviewing documents, the event occurred at a DNC meeting in 2017.”
Swalwell faces serious allegations from multiple women, including former staffers who have described sexual assault and misconduct. Those claims have led to his resignation from Congress and the suspension of his gubernatorial campaign. But this specific allegation from Konst, the one about the DNC event, doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. The photos don’t lie. Swalwell wasn’t there.
