She has spent years popping cysts and draining lipomas for millions of viewers. But nothing prepared Dr. Pimple Popper for what happened to her own body. Dermatologist Sandra Lee revealed that she suffered a stroke while shooting Season 2 of her spinoff series “Dr. Pimple Popper: Breaking Out.”

The reality star opened up in a new interview about the terrifying moment. It happened last November on set. At first, she had no idea what was happening to her.

Lee described the onset as something that felt deceptively ordinary. “I had what I thought was a hot flash,” she recalled. “I got super sweaty and didn’t feel like myself.”

Those symptoms are common for women, especially during perimenopause or hormonal shifts. But this was different. Her body was sending an emergency signal, and she initially dismissed it. The reality star continued filming, not realizing she was experiencing a medical crisis.

It is not clear exactly when Lee recognized something was seriously wrong. What is clear is that the stroke happened while cameras were rolling for the spinoff show, which follows her treating patients with extreme acne and skin conditions.

A stroke occurs when blood flow to part of the brain is interrupted. Symptoms can include sudden numbness, confusion, trouble speaking, severe headache, and as in Lee’s case, sudden sweating and a feeling that something is just off.

Lee’s story carries an urgent message. Stroke symptoms in women often present differently than the classic signs most people know. Women are more likely to experience fatigue, nausea, disorientation, and what Lee felt: a sudden hot flash or overwhelming sweating.

She did not ignore her instincts entirely. At some point during the episode, she sought medical attention. But her decision to share this story now serves as a wake-up call to anyone who might brush off unusual body signals.

Lee has not disclosed the long-term effects of the stroke or detailed her recovery timeline. But she is speaking out, and that itself is significant. She wants viewers to know that strokes do not always look like what you see on TV medical dramas.

Sometimes a stroke feels like a hot flash. Sometimes it happens to someone who seems healthy. And sometimes it happens in the middle of filming a reality show about skin, when you least expect it.

Her message is simple. Listen to your body. If something feels wrong, do not wait. Get help.
