The Queen of Country music has shared a “good news, bad news” update that has left the music world sending a collective “I Will Always Love You” her way. On Monday, May 4, 2026, Dolly Parton officially announced that Dolly Parton cancels her Las Vegas residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Originally scheduled for late 2025 and later moved to September 2026, the six-show run has now been pulled from the calendar entirely as the 80-year-old icon focuses on her physical recovery.
In a heartfelt video shared on Instagram and TikTok, Parton explained that while she is responding well to medical treatments, the side effects are preventing her from delivering a high-octane “Dolly-style” performance.
“The good news is I’m responding really well to meds and treatments and I’m improving every day,” Dolly told her fans. “Now, the bad news is, it’s gonna take me a little while before I’m up to stage-performance level, because some of the meds and treatments make me a little bit ‘swimmy-headed,’ as my grandma used to say.”
The singer joked that she simply cannot risk being dizzy while navigating a stage in her signature 5-inch heels, heavy rhinestone-encrusted outfits, and famously big hair. “I can’t be dizzy carrying around banjos and guitars,” she quipped with her trademark wit.
Dolly used a vivid metaphor to describe her current health status, comparing herself to an old classic car in need of restoration. She revealed that after years of pushing through, her doctors discovered her “engine” needed a total rebuild. Specifically, Parton mentioned ongoing struggles with kidney stones, as well as immune and digestive system issues that were exacerbated by a difficult year of grief following the passing of her husband, Carl Dean, in March 2025.
“When they raised the hood on this old antique, they realized I need to rebuild my engine,” Parton said. “But for sure, my spark plugs need to be changed, because you know as well as I know that I can’t lose my spark!”
While the Dolly Parton cancels Las Vegas residency 2026 news is a blow to West Coast fans, the star emphasized that she isn’t retiring. In fact, she is staying busy with projects that allow her to stay closer to home and take it easy:
• Broadway Debut: She is actively reworking DOLLY: A True Original Musical, which is slated to open in New York later this fall or winter.
• Nashville Ventures: Her new hotel and museum in downtown Nashville are still on track to open later this year.
• Recording: Dolly confirmed she is still recording new music and filming videos, even if she isn’t “up to snuff” for a full live concert yet.
Parton ended her update with a moving thank you to her supporters, noting that the letters and cards she received during her year of “firsts” without Carl Dean were a major part of her healing. “I’ve still got some healing to do, but I am on my way,” she assured. “I’ll see you somewhere down the line.”
