The fallout surrounding Ed Sheeran’s North American tour continues to escalate as supporting acts pull out in the wake of major backstage controversy.

Irish singer-songwriter Aaron Rowe officially announced his decision to step down as an opening act for the remainder of the tour.

Addressing the Departure: Taking to social media, Rowe emphasized that while he considers Sheeran a personal friend who changed his life, he could not in good conscience remain on the bill.

Drawing on Irish History: Pointing to Ireland’s own historical background, Rowe stated that Irish people know “all too well about genocide, forced famine and violent occupation”.

Pushing Back Against Censorship: Rowe strongly criticized attempts by powerful figures to silence artists speaking out against atrocities, stating he would lose self-respect by carrying on as normal.

Rowe’s exit follows the controversial removal of rapper Macklemore over onstage “Free Palestine” remarks. With multiple supporting acts and musicians subsequently walking away from the tour in protest, the high-profile run faces an unprecedented operational crisis.
