Renowned Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Jimmy Jatt, has bravely shared the life-altering health challenges he faced in recent years. In a candid interview on Channels TV’s Rubbin’ Minds, hosted by Ebuka Obi-Uchendu, the DJ revealed that he lost his sight in 2020 and was later diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
A Health Journey That Took a Different Turn
DJ Jimmy Jatt recounted how his health issues began after he decided to explore life outside Nigeria. After spending most of his life in Lagos, he felt the urge to venture into the world—Europe, America, and beyond. However, his journey took an unexpected turn in 2020 when health problems struck.
“I started experiencing health issues. Due to travel restrictions, I remained in Nigeria, lost my sight, and had to undergo surgery to regain it,” he explained. After recovering, he pursued his plan of living abroad and relocated to the U.S., where he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease.
A Remarkable Journey Through Treatment and Recovery
DJ Jimmy Jatt shared the resilience required to navigate his health battle. While in the U.S., he underwent dialysis and later returned to Nigeria for a kidney transplant. “After the procedure, I took time off to fully recover. I continued DJing across America and Europe, but eventually, I felt it was time to come home,” he said.
Despite all the setbacks, the veteran DJ returned to Nigeria in December, stronger and determined to move forward.
A Call for Health Awareness
DJ Jimmy Jatt stressed that kidney disease doesn’t always stem from lifestyle choices. “I’ve never smoked, and I stopped drinking alcohol a long time ago,” he clarified, attributing his condition to diabetes. His story serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of health awareness and management, urging others to take care of their bodies and seek help when needed.
