The hits keep coming for ex-UFC fighter Diego Sanchez. His wife, Teresa Tapia, filed for divorce in February, citing irreconcilable differences. The split came just weeks before Sanchez avoided prison time in a criminal case involving allegations of firing a gun from a moving vehicle. The divorce was finalized with no drama over money or property.
Teresa filed the petition on February 16, 2026. The couple married on December 20, 2024, meaning the marriage lasted just over a year. The paperwork stated there was no hope for reconciliation. A settlement agreement revealed the pair started living separately in April 2025, only four months after saying I do. Both waived spousal support, and they had no joint property or debt to divide.
In her own words, Diego had moved out six months before the divorce. She said she was very patient and kept trying to help him through his problems. Eventually, she felt she had no choice but to end the marriage. She wished him the best and said she will always love his daughter, even after the split.
Just weeks after the divorce filing, Sanchez was sentenced to five years of supervised probation and 800 hours of community service. Prosecutors had asked for prison time. The charges stemmed from allegedly shooting at or from a motor vehicle and negligent use of a weapon. The judge gave him a second chance. By then, his marriage was already over.
Reached for comment, Teresa spoke openly about her decision. Diego has not responded publicly. The former UFC star now faces probation, community service, and a divorce that ended before his legal troubles did. It has been a brutal year inside and outside the cage.
