Afrobeats superstar Davido has called out Instablog9ja for a misleading post that falsely linked his name to a kidnapping case.
The controversy started when a video surfaced online showing three kidnappers being apprehended in Victory Estate, Ago Palace, Lagos State. During their interrogation, the leader of the group identified himself by the nickname “Davido,” stating, “Davido is my nickname. I came to kidnap.”
However, while reporting the incident, Instablog9ja posted a headline that read:
“Davido and two others apprehended for kidnapping in Lagos.”
Davido’s Reaction
Understandably furious, Davido took to social media, issuing a stern warning to the blog. He wrote:
“One day go be one day, continue, my karma no dey always tey.”
Fans and Celebrities React
Many fans and fellow celebrities condemned the misleading report, highlighting the dangers of clickbait journalism and the impact on Davido’s brand and endorsements.
• Juliet Ibrahim: “These bloggers don’t understand the gravity of what they do. If a global entity searches for Davido, this nonsense will pop up. It affects branding and endorsements!”
• Ms_leemart: “These blogs need to be regulated. They do too much for engagement.”
• Johnson_Junior: “The government needs to do something about social media and bloggers in Nigeria for real!”
Final Thoughts
While social media engagement is crucial, false and misleading headlines can damage reputations. Davido’s frustration is valid, and this incident raises serious concerns about ethical journalism and accountability in Nigeria’s digital space.
