David Beckham Billionaire: Britain’s First Sportsman to Hit Ten Figures

History has been made. David Beckham billionaire status is now official, making the former England captain the first British sportsman to accumulate a ten-figure fortune. According to the Sunday Times Rich List, Beckham and his wife Victoria have more than doubled their wealth in the last year, skyrocketing from £500 million to a combined £1.185 billion.

Britain’s first billionaire sportsman title places Beckham in rarefied air. Only the family of ex-Formula One chief executive Bernie Ecclestone ranks higher among sports-related wealth, sitting at £2 billion. But Beckham achieved this milestone largely through his own business ventures rather than inheritance or family fortune.

The crown jewel of Beckham’s empire is Inter Miami. The MLS club he co-owns is now estimated to be the league’s most valuable franchise at 1.45billion(£1.07billion). When Beckham exercised his option to purchase an expansion team at a discounted rate of 25 million, few predicted the franchise would become a billion-dollar asset within years. The arrival of Lionel Messi transformed the club’s valuation overnight.

Beyond football, Beckham remains a marketing powerhouse. His long-standing partnerships with Adidas and Hugo Boss generate substantial annual income. His image licensing company, DB Ventures, continues to sign lucrative deals across fragrances, eyewear, and grooming products. The Beckham brand has proven remarkably resilient more than a decade after his retirement from professional football.

The other half of the billion-dollar equation is Victoria. Her eponymous fashion label has finally turned a corner after years of reported losses. Once dismissed as a celebrity vanity project, the brand now generates serious revenue. Combined with her Spice Girls royalties and other business interests, Victoria contributed significantly to the family’s wealth surge.

The Beckhams are not alone at the top. Promoters Barry and Eddie Hearn rank third with a combined £1.035 billion from Matchroom Sport. Seven-time F1 champion Lewis Hamilton sits fifth at £435 million. Back-to-back Masters champion Rory McIlroy is seventh with £325 million. Heavyweight Anthony Joshua claims eighth place at £240 million, ahead of Tyson Fury in ninth at £162 million. England captain Harry Kane and Sir Andy Murray round out the top ten jointly at £110 million each.

For Beckham, the billionaire label is symbolic as much as financial. He joins an exclusive club that includes Oprah Winfrey, LeBron James, and Tiger Woods as athletes or entertainers who transcended their original fields to build nine-figure and ten-figure enterprises. The boy from Leytonstone who kicked a ball in his council estate garden now sits atop British sports wealth. Not bad for a man once told he would never make it.
