Dave Grohl couldn’t keep some things in forever. The Foo Fighters frontman has given his first interview since his September 2024 admission that he fathered a child outside his marriage to Jordyn Blum, revealing that he has been in therapy six times a week for over a year.
In an interview with The Guardian published March 20, Grohl opened up about the aftermath of the scandal and the intense personal work he has undertaken since going public with his admission.
Grohl told The Guardian that he has been attending therapy six times a week for 70 weeks, amounting to more than 430 sessions. The timeline aligns with him starting shortly after his September 2024 announcement.
The intensity of the schedule, nearly daily sessions for over a year, suggests a deep commitment to addressing the personal issues that led to his infidelity. While Grohl admitted there “were so many things that led” him to therapy, he refrained from discussing the cheating scandal in further detail during the interview.
Grohl addressed his decision to share the news on social media rather than through a traditional publicist or statement. “I had to turn everything off, one of those things being my concern for what other people think,” he told The Guardian.
“Being able to shut off that part of yourself can be sometimes a very healthy exercise in considering life within your immediate radius,” he continued. “Not giving all of that so much currency within yourself that it can completely destroy yourself.”
The admission marked a rare moment of personal transparency from the typically private rock icon, who has spent three decades as one of music’s most beloved figures.
Grohl has been married to Jordyn Blum since 2003. The couple shares three daughters: Violet, 18, Harper, 15, and Ophelia, 11. His September 2024 statement acknowledged his infidelity and commitment to regaining his family’s trust.
The Guardian interview did not address the current status of Grohl’s marriage or his relationship with the child born outside of it. A representative for Grohl confirmed to The Guardian that the child was born in the summer of 2024.
Grohl has maintained a relatively low public profile since the September 2024 announcement. Foo Fighters have continued touring and recording, though the frontman’s focus appears to remain on his personal recovery.
With over 430 therapy sessions completed and counting, Grohl’s commitment to the process suggests that healing, both for himself and his family, remains his priority. The interview marks a careful first step back into the public eye, offering a glimpse of accountability without providing the details many have sought.
