A Federal High Court in Lagos has issued an arrest warrant against Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu, the manager of renowned gospel singer Mercy Chinwo, following allegations of financial misconduct.
Justice Alexander Owoeye approved the warrant on Thursday, January 16, after an ex parte motion filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The EFCC, represented by counsel Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari, submitted the motion under the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, seeking to compel Onyedikachukwu’s appearance in court.
According to an affidavit by EFCC investigator Michael Idoko, the commission received a petition from Chinwo accusing her manager of misappropriating $345,000. The singer alleged that Onyedikachukwu collected royalties from her digital platforms and event earnings without proper disclosure or remittance of her share.
The EFCC counsel revealed that earlier attempts to apprehend Onyedikachukwu had failed, leading to the request for a formal arrest warrant. She also noted that a public summons might follow if he remains elusive.
Justice Owoeye granted the application and set January 24 as the date for Onyedikachukwu’s arraignment. This developing case has sparked widespread attention, with fans of the gospel singer awaiting further updates.
