Conor McGregor is speaking out for the first time since his devastating UFC 329 loss, revealing he will undergo surgery and vowing to stay “sin-free” as he begins the long road to recovery. The former two-division champion suffered a right knee injury just 69 seconds into his comeback fight against Max Holloway, which ended in a technical knockout victory for Holloway. In a heartfelt Instagram post, McGregor reaffirmed his spiritual commitment, writing: “My lifestyle changes are permanent and not just until. I am thankful I get to prove it. I will not open that door nor crack its seal!”
McGregor, who has been vocal about his spiritual journey following treatment in Mexico, insisted his faith-driven transformation is not for show. “I am already back to collecting wins! In Jesus name I pray!” he wrote, adding that the circumstances have only strengthened his and his family’s relationship with God. He also confirmed that he will need surgery before beginning his rehabilitation, after which he plans to fulfill the final bout of his UFC contract.
The loss marked McGregor’s seventh career defeat and his fourth in his past five fights, with only one win since 2016. The 37-year-old previously suffered a fractured left leg in his last UFC appearance in July 2021, making this his second serious leg injury in five years . Despite the setback, McGregor remains confident this isn’t the end, closing his message with: “I trust in You Lord! Show me Your way. Thank You God” .
McGregor’s comeback was one of the most anticipated UFC events of the year, and his injury has left fans and commentators questioning whether the Irish star will ever return to his former glory . UFC CEO Dana White has confirmed doctors suspect a blown ACL, which could require another year-long recovery . McGregor plans to fight out his UFC contract once cleared, telling fans this is just a detour, not the finish line.
