Country music artist Conner Smith has spoken publicly for the first time since a tragic vehicle accident in Nashville claimed the life of 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins. The heartbreaking incident occurred on June 8, when Smith’s pickup truck struck Dobbins as she was walking across a marked crosswalk.

“My Heart Is Broken” – Conner’s Emotional Statement

In a solemn message shared on Instagram, the 24-year-old “Creek Will Rise” singer expressed deep sorrow and grief:

“Four weeks ago, I was involved in a tragic vehicle accident that resulted in the loss of a life. Not a day has gone by that I haven’t grieved, prayed, and mourned for Ms. Dobbins and her family.”

“My heart is broken in a way I’ve never experienced, and I still struggle to fully process the weight of it all.”

Smith asked his fans and the public to pray for the Dobbins family “by name,” and emphasized that the past month has been a time of personal mourning and reflection.

Stepping Away from Music to Grieve

Smith explained his absence from recent performances was a conscious decision made out of respect for the victim’s family:

“Out of respect for everyone involved and to give space for grieving, I made the decision to step away from shows these past few weeks.”

He added that while music has always been a source of healing for him, this moment required stillness and time to process.

Facing Legal Consequences

Smith has received a misdemeanor state citation for failure to yield resulting in a fatality. According to Nashville police, he showed no signs of impairment, and the incident did not involve criminal intent — which is why the charge was not elevated to a felony.

Sources close to the case said Smith has welcomed the safety improvements recently made at the accident site: a tree blocking visibility has been removed, clearer markings have been added to the crosswalk, and new signage has been installed.

Faith Amid Tragedy

Smith closed his statement with a verse-inspired message of hope:

“I’m thankful to serve a God who is near to the brokenhearted, and I have leaned on Him every step of the way. Through tragedy, I have learned that God is more faithful than I could have ever known before.”

As the Nashville community continues to grieve alongside the Dobbins family, Smith’s heartfelt message serves as a reminder of the emotional weight such tragedies carry — not only for the victim’s loved ones but also for those unintentionally involved.
