As the James Bond franchise prepares for a fresh chapter, one familiar face is stealing the spotlight—but not as the new 007. Oscar-winning Irish actor Cillian Murphy has emerged as the top contender to play the next Bond villain, and fans are already buzzing.

The Peaky Blinders and Oppenheimer star currently leads the betting odds at 9/2, according to UK bookmakers, putting him ahead of several other high-profile names. Known for his intense, layered performances, Murphy has long been admired for his iconic role as Thomas Shelby, but it looks like he might soon be stepping into a more sinister suit—this time as Bond’s adversary.

“The villain role in Bond movies is just as iconic as Bond himself,” noted betting expert Jake Ashton. “With Cillian Murphy at the height of his powers and trusted by major directors, he’s a natural favourite.”

From Spy Rumors to Supervillain Buzz

Interestingly, Murphy was previously a fan-favourite to play James Bond himself, but he shot down the speculation, telling Deadline“I think I’m a bit old for that.” Instead, it seems he might bring his cool menace to the darker side of MI6’s world in the upcoming reboot.

Also on the villains’ radar:

Paul Giamatti (11/2): The Ides of March and Billions star brings gravitas and unpredictability.

David Dastmalchian (13/2): Known for The Dark Knight and The Boogeyman, he’s carved a niche in playing unsettling characters.

Zendaya (7/1): The actress stunned fans after expressing her desire to play a villain, telling Elle:

“I feel like I usually play the good guy, so I’d like to play the bad guy. Tap into the evil, supervillain vibes.”

A New Bond Is Coming—And So Is His Enemy

Following Daniel Craig’s dramatic exit in No Time To Die, producers confirmed that the next Bond movie will be a clean reboot—no multiverse, no resurrection storyline, and no retro 1960s throwback.

As for the next 007, names in the running include:

Theo James (3/1): Latest bookies’ favourite

Henry Cavill (3/1): Fan-favourite and long-time contender

Aaron Taylor-Johnson (7/2): Reportedly Barbara Broccoli’s initial pick

Jack Lowden (12/1): Known for Mary Queen of Scots

The Next Era of Bond

With Amazon now holding creative control of the franchise, fans can expect a bold new direction. The new film is likely to drop in late 2026 or 2027, as the team finalizes casting and location scouting.

Whether Murphy ends up donning the villain’s signature smirk or not, one thing’s for sure: the next Bond chapter is shaping up to be explosive—and star-studded.

Stay tuned for updates on the next James Bond and who will become the ultimate foe in 007’s new era.
