Chris Brown is taking legal action against the creators of Investigation Discovery’s docuseries Chris Brown: A History of Violence, alleging that the series defamed him with false and damaging claims.
In court documents obtained by TMZ, the R&B artist accuses Warner Bros. Discovery, Ample Entertainment, and others involved in the production of fabricating a harmful narrative. Brown asserts that the series falsely portrays him as a “serial rapist and sexual abuser,” despite his insistence that he has never been found guilty of any sex-related crime.
The singer highlights that the allegations central to the docuseries were largely based on a lawsuit filed by a Jane Doe, which she later withdrew, reportedly admitting the claims were fabricated. Brown claims the producers ignored evidence he provided to dispute their portrayal of events, choosing instead to perpetuate what he describes as a false and defamatory narrative for profit.
Brown acknowledges his past mistakes, including the infamous physical assault on Rihanna in 2009, but states that he has taken accountability and worked to rebuild his life and reputation over the past decade. He accuses the producers of weaponizing his past to revive an “old narrative” for their gain, causing significant harm to his career, reputation, and business opportunities.
The singer is seeking $500 million in damages, a portion of which he pledges to donate to victims of sexual abuse if awarded. Brown argues that the docuseries has undone much of the progress he has made in repairing his public image, describing the impact on his life as severe.
Representatives for Warner Bros. Discovery and Ample Entertainment have yet to comment on the lawsuit.
