The wife of Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was shot at the couple’s Virginia home and is being treated for serious injuries. The shooting occurred Sunday night at the Bieniemy residence in Ashburn, Virginia, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Sources tell ESPN that Mia Bieniemy, 57, was hospitalized following the incident, though authorities have not publicly confirmed her identity. She is reportedly in stable condition. The Chiefs released a statement saying they are “aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family” but declined further comment, requesting privacy for the family.

Eric Bieniemy was not at home when the shooting occurred. He had been with the Chiefs at training camp in St. Joseph, Missouri, earlier Sunday for the team’s second practice of the 2026 season. He has since stepped away from the team to be with his family, according to reports. Police responded to the scene around 7:32 p.m. ET, and officers remained at the property late into the night.

Bieniemy rejoined the Chiefs earlier this year as offensive coordinator, a position he previously held from 2018 to 2022. He spent stints with the Washington Commanders, UCLA, and the Chicago Bears before returning to Kansas City. The couple purchased their Virginia home in 2023 when Bieniemy was coaching the Commanders.
